PMD, a subsidiary of MDA Project Managers, came about as a natural progression to projects that require a different project management focus outside the conventional built environment. We were already filling a gap in the market by changing the way clients approach projects, especially where technical support is needed. Our company has achieved a Level 1 broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE) rating on the empowerment index for the past three years, and we are an Exempted Micro Enterprise (EME) with a 135% procurement recognition level. We strive to incorporate social upliftment, job creation, and socio-economic issues in our day-to-day project and programme delivery activities, while fulfilling our BBBEE responsibilities.

The Tom Queba Memorial Fund
Tom Queba was a leader in the George taxi industry. His passion, commitment and vision for improved public transport, and for the future of the minibus taxi industry in George contributed greatly to the achievement of the GO GEORGE bus service. He was tragically killed in 2014, which prompted the formation of the Tom Queba Memorial Fund (TQMF) which established the Tom Queba Scholarship for Social Change in his memory.
Since 2019, the Tom Queba Scholarship for Social Change has supported 29 brilliant black South African female scholars in areas of study that contribute particularly to the betterment of the lives and livelihoods of the poorest people in South Africa. It is administered in partnership with the Canon Collins Trust, who shares the values espoused by the TQMF.
Canon Collins Trust is committed to identifying students for whom the Tom Queba Scholarship for Social Change will be most transformative— South African women of colour with exceptional academic and leadership potential but who face systemic barriers to higher education. Candidates demonstrate:
- Strong intellectual ability combined with a commitment to using knowledge for social change.
- Leadership – A proven track record of mobilizing others and influencing systems.
- Financial need – A focus on historically disadvantaged students facing systemic barriers to education.
- Alignment with transformative fields of study – Preference for disciplines that address social justice, economic development, and systemic change.
Canon Collins nurtures scholars by offering peer learning and mentorship, networking opportunities and leadership development, thus fostering a dynamic community where scholars learn, connect, and collaborate long after graduation.
The TQMF has played a crucial role in enhancing access to higher education for women of colour in South Africa. It is the hope of the trustrees that the TQMF fund will encourage other entities to become involved by reinforcing a model of collective responsibility where business, government, and civil society work together to build a more equitable and skilled workforce.
